BooksFirst! was founded in the spring of 2004 by a teacher who saw an opportunity for communities, individuals, and organizations to come together to have a dramatic impact on reading education in America.
Having seen the effect that a donation of high-quality books had on his classroom and other classrooms in his school, Matt Thomas founded BooksFirst! to bring the same impact to other schools and classrooms across the country in areas of extreme need.
Today BooksFirst! has grown into an organization collaborating the efforts of a dedicated board and management team and motivated volunteers from across the nation. As of 2007, volunteers have collected thousands of books, which BooksFirst! has distributed to schools and teachers across seven states, benefiting thousands of students.
